Blogging Better
LinkedIn Advice From Renee King
This a post I lifted in its entirety off of a LinkedIn Group, some advice from Renee King, on blogging better….. Best advice in a nutshell I have seen in a long time. Good stuff! Thanks Renee!
Renee King • I always tweet and post my latest articles on twitter and my FB fan page and I get quite a bit of traffic with that.
Blogging Better by Promoting Other Bloggers
Join communities that actively support promoting other bloggers (like linkedin) and as a travel blogger, I find TBEX to be immensely helpful. Be sure to have social icons clearly displayed on your blog. No one can tweet, stumble, FB share, subscribe to your RSS feed, digg or reddit your posts if you do not have a plugin installed on your blog where they can do so.
Use sexybookmarks (they have every SM icon that exists) or a similar plugin (google social media plugin or go to your wp admin panel, click on plugins/add new and search for one that best suits you. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to show support but couldn’t because no social icons were there.
The Etiquette of Commenting
When commenting, don’t give a cursory “Nice post” comment. Try to post something substantial…something that would make the reader want to go check out your blog. Who knows? They may start following you and subscribing to your feed, etc. People usually ignore boring comments. If there is any way possible add the comment luv plugin to your blog. I know that sometimes it will conflict with other plugins and can’t be used, but you never know until you try. Comment luv will display a commenter’s last post title right after they comment on a post. This is a great promotional tool and I can say that it helps to get people to comment because they KNOW that there will be a link left behind that someone can click on to get to their site.
Be Opinionated but Not Nasty
Don’t be afraid to be opinionated (never nasty) because that is when you typically get more comments. My most commented posts are my inspirational ones….not all will agree with it….but the good news is that they will come to your site and say what’s on their mind….and if they agree they will say so as well. Be sure to try to build a community with your twitter and FB , etc followers, if they like and believe in you they will go out of their way to promote you. Engage with them! The worst thing you could do is to constantly post articles and never ‘say’ a word to anyone. Meet, talk and get involved online.
One of the greatest challenges is bounce rate….that is, people coming to your site (maybe via a link) and never really staying long enough to read the article or search around the rest of the site. I read something the other day that resonated with me…increase your font size. People are getting older and finding it difficult to read small text, so some will give up and leave.
Blogging better can pay off in far-reaching ways.
