Happy Halloween!
Halloween is almost here. And by now ghouls, goblins and monsters of all sizes and styles are unleashed and enjoying themselves. We wanted to share a few throwback photos of Halloween taken in Boston in 1986 while we were traveling through the city on our North American Journey.
There is nothing like being in Salem, Massachusetts as Halloween festivities unfold. The community takes this holiday seriously. Apparently these days, more than 250,000 people come to enjoy Salem’s “Haunted Happenings” which go on during the entire month of October.
After enjoying ourselves in Witch Country, we headed over to Boston in time for the Boston Common Monster Dash. Mark and I were costumed as curious travelers. We thoroughly enjoyed the merriment and all the excited participants who were decked out in their Halloween costume splendor. However, we did not ourselves participate in the dash.
The first time we ever saw a big fake derriere was in Boston on this charming woman. It was a lovely time, a fun time, a time before the nasty pall of terrorism on this fun-loving town. A time before Bostonians would have to refer to themselves as “Boston Strong.”
After chatting, laughing and taking photos of the participants, we found a nice vantage point where we could watch the Monster Dash.
We had a lot of fun in Boston. After checking out the Dash, as I recall, we went to a bistro for a bowl of clam chowder, some oyster crackers and a beer. And then we climbed into our Chinook and headed south past all the beautiful Autumn trees.
