Our Day with James Hong
Did you know that the amazing prolific actor, James Hong, was also a mountain biker? One summery day in LA in the year 1994, the entire Hong family (wife Susan and daughter April) joined us on a mountain bike ride in the Hollywood Hills. This moment was recorded for history, for a multi-award-winning mountain biking travel adventure called “Full Cycle: A World Odyssey.” by Steadicam operator Richard Crow, whose subsequent work has been seen by millions. If you’ve seen Criminal Minds, Chicago Med or a medley of other television dramas, you have probably seen Richard’s work. Stay tuned for “Reagan,” as Richard also shot footage for that movie.
Setting the Scene
So back to 1994. As the sun bathed the hills of Hollywood, Patty, Mark and Richard sat James Hong down in a patch of shade near some trees and interviewed him. James, recently honored for his lifetime of work by having a Hollywood star on the sidewalk of fame, is known for his roles in films such as “Big Trouble in Little China,” “Blade Runner,” and “Kung Fu Panda,” Hong brought his immense talent and charismatic presence to the production that day.

Richard Crow skillfully operating the Steadicam to capture the action, the riders set off on their bikes. They pedaled through the picturesque trails as the Hollywood sign towered above them. This scene is featured in the USA segment of “Full Cycle: A World Odyssey” that is finally being aired on television, 30 years later at Red Coral Universe.
