Our San Diego Video Production 2024 Roundup
As we wrap up our year in San Diego video production 2024, Crystal Pyramid Productions reflects on an extraordinary year filled with creativity, innovation, and recognition. Based in San Diego, our team has continued to set the bar high for video production, creating compelling content that spans industries and borders. Here’s a look at some of the highlights from this memorable year.
Award-Winning Achievements
One of our proudest moments came when VP Patty Mooney was nominated for San Diego Magazine’s People’s Choice Award as a Pioneer in Media and Marketing. In 2023, Patty was recognized as the People’s Choice Award winner as Pioneer in Sports & Entertainment. Widely regarded as the “Grandmother of Extreme Sports Videos,” Patty’s contributions to the field have been amazing, and this recognition solidifies her legacy as a trailblazer in both the video production world and mountain biking scene.
Adding to the excitement, Patty also won the grueling Sagebrush Safari mountain bike race for the second consecutive year, this time at the age of 69.
Patty’s dual passions for adventure and storytelling continue to inspire our work and embody the spirit of Crystal Pyramid Productions. You can find more of her creative writing at Substack, where she helms both Nectarball and A Diary Left Open.
Documentary Highlights
This year saw the premiere of NECTARBALL: The Story of Cannabis, a labor of love that took seven years to complete. The documentary, produced by husband-wife partners, Mark Schulze and Patty Mooney, explores the cultural, medicinal, and economic impact of cannabis. Shot across countries like South Africa, Uruguay, the Netherlands, Argentina and USA, NECTARBALL is now streaming on the Red Coral Universe TV platform, receiving rave reviews for its comprehensive storytelling and stunning visuals.
We also continued to shine a spotlight on the vibrant mountain biking community with the release of Golden Hour: First Mt. Everest Mountain Bike Rally 1993. This documentary, driven by the poetic voice of Patty Mooney, captures the festival atmosphere and the groundbreaking nature of the event, which featured two female mountain bikers (Patty Mooney and Julia Ingersoll) among its participants. With breathtaking footage and heartfelt narration, the film takes viewers on a unique journey through the high-altitude adventure. Patty’s thoughts on the Sound Design of “Golden Hour” can be found at this recent article on VideoProducer.io, entitled “How Does Sound Design Play a Critical Role in Storytelling?”
Additionally, the New & Unique Videos team have been working hard to bring our vintage VHS titles into the streaming-platform spectrum. “Battle at Durango” is now available at Prime and Apple TV. The world’s first instructional mountain bike video, “The Great Mountain Biking Video,” has been revised and reissued and will be hitting the streaming platforms soon, along with “Ultimate Mountain Biking: Advanced Techniques & Winning Strategies.”
Commercial and Educational Projects
Our collaboration with 3D Systems resulted in a standout products video showcasing their cutting-edge 3D printer. The video was skillfully shot by Director of Photography Mark Schulze and edited by Patty Mooney, demonstrating our team’s ability to deliver polished and impactful commercial content. It’s truly amazing what you can now “print.”
On the educational front, our legacy as a pioneer in instructional video production continued with titles like Massage for Relaxation, the first-ever video to focus on relaxation massage techniques. These projects underscore our commitment to producing high-quality content that informs and empowers audiences.
Media Appearances and Community Engagement
This year, Patty Mooney and Mark Schulze were featured on the Zevely Zone with Channel 8’s Jeff Zevely. Titled “Happy Trails for a San Diego Couple,” the segment celebrated their nearly 43-year partnership and shared passion for mountain biking, which began in 1986. The story highlighted their adventurous spirit and their dedication to inspiring others through both sports and storytelling.
After almost 43 years of working and playing together, nearly “joined at the hip,” Mark and Patty are happy to share their advice about what makes a marriage a happy one. They have appeared on several podcasts this past year and are open to share their decades of wisdom to curious audiences.
Looking Ahead
As we step into 2025, we are excited to continue pushing the boundaries of video production. From corporate projects to documentaries, Crystal Pyramid Productions remains dedicated to crafting stories that resonate and inspire. We thank our clients, collaborators, and audience for making 2024 an unforgettable year. Here’s to more success and innovation in the year ahead!
