Visiting Italy
Visiting Italy was certainly a long-time dream for us. To celebrate our anniversary, we carved out a spot in our calendar for May. That is the time prior to summer just before a cloud of tourists descends upon Europe. We vacationed in Italy for two weeks, the perfect amount of time to acclimate. The weather was fantastic, even when it drizzled one day. We ate, drank and videotaped our way through Milan, Verona, Florence and Rome.
There seems to be a gelato shop on every corner of every Italian city. The flavors are so fantastic. Mango with chunks. Hazelnut with chopped nuts. Chocolate fudge with ribbons of mocha. It’s a wonder we did not gain 20 pounds apiece.
Our friend, Nicol, took us on a whirlwind tour through Milan and Tuscany. It was a very exclusive tour! She took us to the Gattopardo Cafe (Leopard Cafe). That is a 19th Century church in the heart of Milan which was converted into a nightclub. It features a huge chandelier that goes up and down. There we enjoyed a lovely Italian sparkling champagne.
Like tens of thousands of couples before us, we shared a kiss at the Casa di Juliet in Verona. Afterwards, we enjoyed a bottle of wine at Castle Sirmione at Lake Garda.
Thank you, Italia, for fulfilling a life-long dream of ours. We look forward to seeing you again!
